Our counterpart: Music Crossroads-Malawi

“Petits Músics del Món” supports some projects in Malawi through a local, country-based counterpart: Music Crossroads – Malawi. Its main objective is to generate processes of change, leadership and personal and social transformation, through education and music. It is a shared and co-organized project that starts from a coordinated and international team, becoming the native people of Malawi the driving forces and protagonists of their own change.

Music Crossroads Malawi (MCM) is a non-governmental organization that uses music education and the arts to educate children and nurture young talents. Its framework is focused on improving Malawi’s education system, increasing the employment opportunities of at-risk youth and promoting the music and arts industry. MCM participates in a number of its own co-operative projects with other organizations such as Small Musicians of the World and works in parallel with 16 elementary and secondary schools in Lilongwe.

The collaboration of Petits Músics and Music Crossroads has been based on four areas of intervention, according to the detected problems:

  • Form the Malawi Music Crossroads team, bands and choirs of their own.
  • Provide a professional training module and promote your own bands and choirs.
  • Improve youth employability.
  • Preserving and promoting traditional musical heritage
