More educated, more free
Project that focuses on building more toilets in Mlodza elementary school of Lilongwe, Malawi. It was created with the aim of guaranteeing children access to health services and promoting the assistance of young girls; which, due to the lack of toilets, drop out of school during their menstrual periods.
The main proposal is to stimulate the incorporation of girls into schools so that they can continue their education and finish high school, thus breaking the circle of poverty and dependency. It is also a way to combat child marriage, human trafficking, protection against sexual abuse, and to report on risky practices that can lead to STDs or AIDS.
The project More educated, freer apart from building a new hygienic structure, has allowed the children of the Mlodza school to incorporate new hygienic habits. They have been able to get to know their body and learn about the importance of hygiene.
What we want here in Malawi is to encourage girls to go to school.
Any girl should go to school, both in the towns and cities,
but the parents are the ones who don’t let their kids go to school.
Martha Kasinja
Construction of this sanitation structure began on March 11, 2020 and was completed in June. The works of the project More educated, freer are almost finished! Thanks to this project and the support of the AMB International and Cooperation we will be able to guarantee the girls of the Mlodza school in Malawi accessibility to quality health services.
The project More educated, freer has allowed to build a sanitation structure, consisting of three latrines, three showers for washing the female intimate area and three hand washing structures, in the primary school Mlodza of Area 23 of Lilongwe (Malawi). The project has also included hygiene-based education as a key element in transforming children’s school and hygiene paradigms. We were able to raise awareness among a total of 5,248 children about the importance of hygiene and female hygiene.
